The phrase “by his wounds we are healed” refers to the punishment that Jesus Christ endured—floggings and beatings followed by his agonizing death on a cross—to take upon himself all the sins of all who believe that Jesus Christ is the Lord and Savior. "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6).
